Ambassadors for the College of Liberal Arts and Communications (CLAC) set up a creative spin on St. Patrick’s Day, hosting a variety of activities for students to enjoy on their way to class.
Taking place just outside the Humanities and Social Sciences building on Friday, the event featured playful St. Patrick’s Day-themed games like “guess how many Lucky Charms are in the jar.”
Zoe McGilvray, a junior ambassador for CLAC and vocal music education major from Bald Knob, Arkansas, said timing played a big part in the creation of the event.
“We wanted to do something before spring break and thought a St. Patrick’s Day theme would be awesome,” McGilvray said.
In addition to holiday-themed fun, students enjoyed classic games like cornhole. The event also featured Irish Folk music and clover-filled decor.
Raelyn Tinkle, a senior ambassador for CLAC and communications major from Mountain View, Arkansas, said the placement of the celebration allowed students of all majors to participate and join in.
“It’s been really cool to meet new people from different majors and share what CLAC is about,” Tinkle said.
CLAC spans more than 11 departments, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, which aim to foster lifelong growth and prepare students for careers in media, education, public service, the arts and communication.
Students in the CLAC program may be chosen to join the college’s student ambassador program.
“We meet about twice a month, and we come up with different events we can host for students on A-State’s campus,” McGilvray said.
The ambassadors have hosted a multitude of events thus far. Carson Campbell, a junior ambassador for CLAC and sports media and marketing major from Jonesboro, said his favorite so far was a Halloween event.
“We hosted a Halloween event in October, where we had different escape rooms, and it was really fun,” Campbell said. “We had a big turnout, lots of students came and got candy.”
For their St. Patrick’s Day celebration specifically, the CLAC program saw about 50 students stop by.
