
- “Sinners” made history as the most nominated movie in Oscars history. The film was nominated 16 times and won four awards, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Michael B. Jordan), Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography.
- Autumn Durald Arkapaw, the cinematographer behind “Sinners” won the award for best cinematography, becoming the first woman and person of color to take home the Oscar in that category.
- Conan O’Brien attempted “reach a younger demographic” by showing Subway Surfers gameplay on half of the screen with the words, “When you’re hostmaxxing the Oscars and lowkenuinely trying to rizz up the younger demographic by going brainrot mode, and even though you’re unc-coded with a bunch of fame-filled NPCs, you’re still S-tier level aura farming. Six-Seven.”
- Best live action short film is a tie, only the seventh one in Oscars history, “The Singers” and “Two People Exchanging Saliva.”
- Anna Wintour and Anne Hathaway presented the award for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup & Hairstyling.
- “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters” became the first K-Pop song to win the award for best original song.
- “Hamnet‘s” Jessie Buckley made history when she became the first Irish actress to take home the Best Actress Oscar. Buckley is also only the sixth woman to sweep this awards season winning “Best Actress” at the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTA’s, Critics’ Choice Awards and the SAG Awards. The only other women to achieve this feat are Helen Mirren, Natalie Portman, Brie Larson, Frances McDormand and Renée Zellweger.
- “Marty Supreme” was nominated for 7 awards and won none of them. Many credit the loss to Timothée Chalamet’s “no one cares” about ballet or opera during a CNN and Variety town hall event.
- “One Battle After Another” won six awards, including Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Achievement in Film Editing. Sean Penn also won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for playing Steven J. Lockjaw and was not in attendance to accept his award. This was also the first year for the “Best Casting” award and was won by Cassandra Kulukundis for her casting in “One Battle After Another.”
