A-State Football, Volleyball Will Not Play This Weekend

Yet another A-State football game has been put on hold, as Saturday’s contest against Tulsa has been indefinitely postponed after the Red Wolves could not fill out a two-deep depth chart.

This is the second straight game that has been postponed due to COVID-19’s effect on the team, and A-State athletic director Terry Mohajir was more open about the effects of the virus in this week’s press release.

“This is a result of a combination of positive tests on Monday and other players still displaying symptoms, as well as having time to safely reacclimate prior to the game,” Mohajir said. “This decision is based on the ability to safely field a two-deep at the position group rather than the total number of players unavailable.  We are taking all precautions as our student health and safety remains our first and foremost priority.”

Unlike the game against Central Arkansas that was rescheduled for Oct. 10, Tulsa and Arkansas State have not landed on a new date to play the game, and it is a possibility that this game will not be played at all, as the Red Wolves are playing two games in the course of a week to play the Bears, and might not want to take that hit again in the middle of Sun Belt conference play.

Meanwhile, Arkansas State volleyball will also suffer its second postponed/cancelled match of the season, as Texas-Arlington contacted A-State and reported that they were unavailable to play this weekend, and will attempt to reschedule the conference triple-header. The Red Wolves next scheduled game is Friday, Oct. 2 against Little Rock at First National Bank Arena.
