Members of A-State’s Black Student Association put on a showcase in the Union auditorium March 12 to display the talents of the A-State’s Black students.
Giana McKinney kicked off the event with a magnificent dance. Followed by Zadia Hollis who recited a poem called “Friends with Benefits” by Jae Nichelle.
However, those were not the only performances of the night. Derrionte Givhan, Caleb Thomas, and Elise Brazile performed songs while Larry Turner and Chris Crutchfield played the trombone and the saxophone. Giana McKinney, Aleecia, and Zadia Hollis performed a trio dance and RaeChelle Haywood played piano for Brazile’s performance.
Giana McKinney and Arkysia Whitehead have done a phenomenal job all year of planning and executing great events like the ones above.
Whitehead describes the turnout of the event as “pretty good.”
“That was the most people we (BSA) have seen at an event since the virus hit,” Whitehead said.
The coronavirus delayed a number of events for BSA and a number of different clubs and organizations. They planned this event to bring their members together to promote positivity, unity, and ultimately have a good time before going home for Spring Break.
The Black Student Association has hosted multiple events including: Karaoke Night, Dance Battle and a Movie Night. They even co-hosted a Game night with Brother 2 Brother and Sister 2 Sister. BSA is run by an outstanding group of minority students who have played an instrumental role in other events and other organizations.
