Biden speaks out on Chauvin trial

President Biden shared his thoughts on the Derek Chauvin trial while the jury was sequestered.

Biden shared his hopes for the jury to reach the “right” verdict, following a conversation with George Floyd’s family Monday.

To reporters in the Oval Office, Biden said, “I’m praying the verdict is the right verdict, which is, I think it’s overwhelming, in my view. I wouldn’t say that unless the jury was sequestered now, not hearing me say that.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden did not look to influence the trial with his comments and only felt it was appropriate to share his thoughts while the jury was sequestered.

Today was the jury’s second day of deliberation on the verdict of the trial to determine whether Chauvin is guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the case of Floyd’s death.

Floyd’s family is calling for anyone planning protests to stay peaceful if Chauvin is acquitted. Major cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco and Atlanta are preparing their police departments for protests if Chauvin is acquitted.
