Affordable Eats within Walking Distance of Campus

Jessica McMillan, Staff Writer

The midterm season is always a stressful time for students, no matter if this is your first or fourth year. Studying over notes constantly becomes tiresome and the day of the test can cause anxiety for those who aren’t the best test-takers. Often, in this time of struggle and stress, we could be displaying some unhealthy eating habits. For example, skipping meals throughout the day or just having a bag of chips and a soda. (Although there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as it isn’t a constant occurrence.)

So, I would recommend doing something different this midterm season. It isn’t hard to do, and it could possibly do you some good. I suggest taking a break when you can and getting some food from off-campus. Let it be a reward for this week and coming this far this semester. Plus, it is easy to do with the number of places around A-State.

However, there is a place by campus that is open 24/7, within a small budget, and meets everyone’s satisfaction. This fast-food place is the McDonald’s on East Johnson. Although to some it’s deemed unhealthy, it is still a quick meal for a student who is trying to get through college. Not only that but it is great for those who study late-night .

I ended up walking from my North Park dorm to that particular McDonalds. The walk itself was about 10 minutes to get there and back. So in total it was about 20 minutes altogether. The walk was great and took my mind off things after a busy day of studying. Being away from the textbook and laptop can do you some good even if the test is tomorrow. If I am being honest, that small moment away from studying can help you recharge your batteries.

For most who have been to a McDonald’s, you would know that you can get a lot for $15.00 which is my normal budget. However, what I ended up getting was a two cheeseburger combo with a large fries and a coke to drink. The total was $9.16 and so I had $5.84 change leftover. The one mistake I made was walking back to my room. As the weather hasn’t been the best so far, you can guess my food was cold by the time I reached my dorm. Either way the food was really good and comforting during midterms. You can never really beat a simple cheeseburger and really good salty fries!
