The Arkansas State baseball team lost a weekend series against Illinois State, but finished with a 14-10 win in the final game of the series.

In game one, the Red Wolves lost 6-2 with only five hits and three errors on defense.

Junior outfielder Allen Grier was the highlight of the game for A-State, going 2-3 with one run.

Pitching gave up four earned runs, as the other two were from errors in the field.

In game two, Arkansas State lost 12-8 with over double-digit hits, but not enough to pull out the win as Illinois State had 15 hits and executed in key situations.

Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Kyler Carmack went 3-4 with one run batted in and one walk. Carmack got on base four different times.

Pitching gave up all eight of the runs as earned runs.

In the third game, A-State won 14-10, as mentioned earlier.

The Red Wolves out hit Illinois State 14-10, the same score as the game. Illinois State also had four errors as A-State had none.

“Friday they took it to us. Saturday we did not play really clean pitching and defense wise. Both teams were throwing punches (Sunday) and we are glad we came out on top,” Head Coach Tommy Raffo said.

There were five players with a multi-hit game. Sophomore infielder Wil French, junior outfielder Blake Burris, junior catcher Brandon Hager, graduate student infielder Kody Darcy and sophomore infielder Daedrick Cail all had multi-hit performances. The five combined for 11 hits and 10 runs batted in.

“It felt great to salvage the series,” French said.

The pitching was still a struggle despite the win with all 10 of the runs being earned.

The offense seems to be present in every game for this team. The pitching just needs to step up in the future.

“Pitching and defense is going to be a big deal moving forward,” Raffo said.

A-State has a weekend series at home against Missouri State March 3-5. The first game is at 6 p.m., the second at 3 p.m. and the third at 1 p.m.
