Raj Bodasakurti, a senior wildlife conservation major from Visakhapatnam, India, said this is ISA’s first winter formal. She said the formal was open to anyone on campus, not just international students.

“This spring, we hosted a prom and that was a huge success. We were like ‘We should do something different,’ and that’s when the whole formal idea came in,” she said.

Since many international students did not have a prom or a formal in high school, Raj Bodasakurti said the ISA wanted to host events like this to give them that American experience.

The ISA handed out masquerade masks and served food at the formal. There was also an open dance floor, a scavenger hunt and giveaways.

Raj Bodasakurti said the ISA plans to continue hosting similar events.

“This is the first one, hopefully not the last. I hope the legacy continues,” she said.
