Fourth record broken for Track and Field

The Arkansas State University  track and field team concluded their weekend action after competing in both the New Mexico Collegiate Classic and the Jaguar Invitational. 

On day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, sophomore Hannes Fahl broke A-State’s men’s 800 meter record. This is the third week in a row someone on the team has broken a record. 

Placing fifth overall, Fahl ran 1:49.13, while junior Lasse Funck ran a personal best of 1:51.25. 

Junior Cheyenne Melvin placed second overall in the women’s 800 meters, running a time of 2:08.61. 

To close out the competition, clearing a height of 5.55m (18-2.5), senior Bradley Jelmert took home the gold. 

The Red Wolves traveled to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the USA Jaguar Invitational on Sunday. 

Redshirt junior Jacob Lawrence won the men’s 3000 meters, clocking a time of 8:22.43, beating the runner up by less than a second. In the same event Freshman Matthew Dunsworth finished 11th, and freshman Benny Brenneman finished 12th.

Freshman Emma Guadognolia finished 3rd in the women’s 800 meters, clocking in at 2:16.67, a personal best. 

In the men’s mile, graduate Ryan Parson finished 5th with a time of 4:17.49. The next highest finish by a Red Wolves runner was sophomore Zeke McCain, with a time of 4:29.29. McCain finished 13th.

The Red Wolves will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for the Music City Challenge Friday.
