The best student duos were put to the test at the second annual Battle of the Baes, hosted by Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha.

Pairs of students were questioned on how well they know their partner in this game show. The couples that knew each other the best had the chance to win a $50 gift card, a $25 Sonic gift card and a coupon for $10 off at Chili’s along with candy. 

Cindy Gomez, junior business administration major from Jonesboro, said the event was coordinated to be a game show that included not just significant others but sorority sisters, fraternity brothers, friends and anyone else who wanted to be included. 

“We’re a Latin-based sorority but not Latin exclusive so we try to host events to make sure everyone knows that anyone’s welcome,” Gomez said. “Since it’s Valentine’s Day we wanted to do something cute with it.” 

The business administration student said she got the idea for the event from an episode of “Full House,” where they play a similar game. 

Parker Collins, a sophomore marketing major from Benton, Arkansas, and Carson Collins a mid-level education major from Queen Creek, Arizona are a married couple who won first place in Battle of the Baes.

Carson Collins said some of the questions were harder than she thought they’d be but it would be embarrassing if they didn’t win “Battle of the Baes” 

“We’re the only ones that actually live together,” Parker Collins said. “We share a kitchen, share a living room, share everything. Like we’re married.” 

The marketing major also played the game with his best friend Nick Orr, a sophomore accounting student from Ellington, Missouri. 

Parker Collins said it was easier playing the game with his wife than with Orr because they spend more time together. 

Sophia Gomez, a first-year biology student from Jonesboro, partnered with her ex-boyfriend Brandon Solorzano, a sophomore business administration student from Jonesboro, for this event. 

Gomez said it wasn’t awkward to be on a team with Solorzano because they’re still really good friends. 

“I thought it’d be a fun little opportunity, you know? To bring a joke to it,” Gomez said. “The questions were really hard. I actually thought we would get through more questions.”

Gomez said she’d do the event again but would probably choose a different partner. 

“It was a really fun experience,” she said. “I haven’t been to an event like this at school before so I thought it was really fun and different.”
