Ranking the coffee options on campus

It’s early. Your eyes are heavy and you need a pick me up now or you will sleep through your 8 a.m. class. But with all the choices, where will you go? There are three places on campus to choose from, Einsteins, Starbucks and the new Aspretto.

I have taken my refined tastes and put them to the test, ranking each for your knowledge and enjoyment.  From each place, I got a medium hot mocha with caramel and chocolate. Let the ranking games begin!

Bad coffee takes bronze

Aspretto – I tried so hard to like this coffee. I wanted to like a new place. But upon my first sip, I was flabbergasted by how bad this coffee was. It was just black coffee with syrup. It was not mocha at all. This is not worth a penny if you want a quick fix, it would make more sense to go to another coffee place than go through whatever this monstrosity is.

It was so bad I can barely put it into words. There is no sweetness to this drink, it is rather a painful experience of a liquid. The only reason someone will ever see me buying coffee from this place again is if I want to suffer. -100/10

The simple taste takes silver

Einstein Bros Bagels – This was just gross. The temperature was great, but it felt like all the flavor was at the top and once I got done with drinking the first bit it tasted like regular black coffee with sugar. I hate black coffee.

I was disappointed with Einstein’s on this one, I thought it would be sweeter and more flavourful, rather than just being a splash of syrup on the top. The smell of the coffee alone was sickening and it just wasn’t appealing to me after a while. I wouldn’t recommend this unless you like lackluster black coffee. However, if I needed a quick fix, I might get it only to quickly pump up my energy. 4/10.

The green takes gold

Starbucks – I went into this expecting something terrible. I usually hate Starbucks so I was strongly biased before I even placed my order. However, I was surprised by how good this drink was.

It didn’t feel heavy or too sweet. It tasted smooth and soft to my delicate taste buds. I liked the smell of the drink and I simply could not get enough. Usually, I have found the flavor in hot Starbucks drinks to be lacking.

The only issue I found with it was how much caramel was in the drink itself. I asked for two pumps and it felt like one.Overall, in comparison to the other drinks, Starbucks takes the cake on flavor.   9/10.
