Red Wolves Rugby defeats Lindenwood

Arkansas State rugby remains undefeated as the Red Wolves took down the Lindenwood Lions 13-7.

The Lions entered the game ranked second in the nation and were undefeated as well.

Lindenwood has been a strong opponent for the Red Wolves, winning the last nine matches against A-State. The Red Wolves ranked 7th in the country coming into the match.

A-State held the Lions scoreless until the 65-minute mark. The Red Wolves held a 5-0 lead after fullback James Beauclark scored a try at the 15 minute mark after smashing past two Lindenwood defenders.

A-State held this lead for most of the match. Both defenses were top notch. Lindenwood threatened to cross the goal line twice, but the Red Wolves held them back.

At the 65-minute mark, the Lions finally broke through and scored and after a successful conversion kick they led the game 7-5.

The Red Wolves responded quickly. In a short, two-minute drive, the Red Wolves marched the ball down the field and left wing Ned Madden scored a goal line try, but the conversion kick was unsuccessful, making the score 10-7.

With a slim lead, the Red Wolves held off a Lindenwood attack and forced a penalty from the Lions in their own half of the field. Fly-half Warrick Day made a successful penalty kick, bringing the score to 13-7. A-State held off any other attempt from the Lions and got the win over Lindenwood.

The Red Wolves will travel to College Station, Texas where they will take on Texas A&M Saturday.
