The Red Wolves women’s golf team secured a victory Tuesday in the UTA Maverick Classic. The two-day tournament was hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington.

Most of the participants in the tournament were Texas-based schools, with the exception of Little Rock, who placed 4th.

A-State’s final score was greatly helped by the performance of sophomore golfer Ashley Kim. Kim tied a program record for low 54-hole total. For her efforts, she received an individual medal and finished first in individual performance for the tournament. Kim scored 15 birdies and an eagle, with only 5 bogeys.

Kim’s performance tied the record of former Red Wolves golfer Olivia Schmidt, who set the record of 12 under par 204 in the Lady Red Wolves Classic back in 2022. This is also the first individual medal in Kim’s career.

A-State finished with a team total of -13. This was one stroke ahead of second-place Tarleton State who shot -12. Tarleton State started to mount a comeback in the final round, but it was too little, too late for the Texans.

Besides Kim, three more Red Wolves placed in the top 10. Sophomore Anne-Lea Lavoie tied for 5th place with a score of -3 under par.  In seventh place was junior Morgan Beaulieu, who finished the tournament with a score of -2. Senior Charlotte Menager tied for tenth place, ending her tournament run at even-par. 

The Red Wolves will travel to Vail, Colo. on Sept. 23 to compete in the Red Sky Classic.
