The Arkansas State Women’s soccer team took on South Alabama in a game that ended in a 1-0 Jaguars victory.
The Lady Red Wolves entered conference play with a record of 3-1-2, and won their last game on the road against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. A-State has only achieved 1 victory in their past 10 matches against South Alabama.
The game opened with 9 shots on goal from the Jaguars and 6 shots from Lady Red Wolves in the first half, with goalkeeper Damaris Deschaine collecting 3 in the first half.
Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the half. The Lady Red Wolves started the 2nd half strong with several shots, but just could not get the ball in. The closest the Red Wolves got to scoring was in the 63rd minute.
Defender Maya Jones took a shot on goal only a few feet away from the goal, but South Alabama goalkeeper Allison Luckhardt made a crucial save to prevent the Red Wolves goal.
In the 68th minute, forward Monique Grey of the Lady Jaguars shot the match winning goal, giving the Jaguars a 1-0 advantage. Deschane had just recorded a Red Wolves save seconds before Grey kicked the ball into the net.
The Lady Red Wolves managed to take only a couple more shots in what remained of the game, but the Jags defense held firm and secured a victory.
South Alabama outshot the Red Wolves 17-13. The Lady Red Wolves record drops to 3-2-2. South Alabama’s record improves to 6-3-0
Midfielder Keelyn Peacock led the Lady Red Wolves in shots with 3. Goalkeeper Demaris Deschane recorded 5 saves in the game.
The Lady Red Wolves will take on the Georgia Southern Eagles this Thursday.
