Red Wolves continue conference dominance with victory over Cajuns

The Red Wolves women’s basketball team kept their foot on the neck of the Sun Belt Conference with a 62-49 win at Lafayette over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. 

Coach Destinee Rogers current attack plan of “40 Minutes of Hell” in which every player on the court is substituted for five players fresh players from the bench, keeping players energized. Every player on the Red Wolves roster saw at least 14 minutes of playing time, and three different players hit double digits in scoring.

The game was a dogfight in the first quarter, with both teams struggling towards an 8-8 tie at the end of the quarter. The Red Wolves would pummel the Cajuns in the second quarter by hanging 21 points, including 5 three-point buckets. This lead would hold until the end of the game and prove effective in holding off the Cajuns scoring 21 in the 4th quarter.

Guard Wynter Rogers managed to get a double-double in the game, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She led the team in rebounds. Guard Kennedie Montue came off the bench to lead the team in scoring, getting 16 points and shooting 4-9 from the field, 4-4 from the free throw line, and 4-7 from the three. Guard Zyion Shannon scored 10 points and led the team in steals with 5. Cajuns guard Erica Lafayette led her team in points with 21 and rebounds with 7.

The victory marks the Red Wolves seventh straight victory, also making it their seventh straight conference victory. A-State has not actually lost a game in 2025, with their last loss coming on December 29, 2024 at Appalachian State. The Red Wolves are currently tied with Troy for third place in the SBC, with a record of 11-7, 7-1 non-conference. They will play at South Alabama on January 25th.
