The Psychology and Counseling Club is an academic organization that encourages and stimulates students’ interest in the academic disciplines of psychology and counseling. Through opportunities such as lectures, networking and social events, the club aims for students interested in psychology to bond over similar interests.
“The Psychology Club consists of individuals who have passion for the subject,” Zoey Sanders, club president said. “Whether it be mental or behavioral health, research discussions, or theories, there will always be a great discussion that erupts from the topic.”
Sanders, a senior psychology major from High Ridge, Missouri, said the Psychology Club focuses on education and community formation through the subject. Additionally, she said the club allowed her to create “forever friendships,” and connections with the community.
“Individuals in this club are helpful, caring and the type of people that make friendships worthwhile. This club has given me the ability to take a break from the stress of school and attend enjoyable events with great people,” Sanders said.
Sanders said the purpose of the psychology club is to inform and educate others about psychology.
“When I hear ‘Psychology Club,’ I think of the bonds and opportunities that this club has given me. This club, to me, can be described as educational, giving, and impactful,” Sanders said.
Sanders is not the only member of the Psychology club that has significantly benefited from the organization.
Alana Holloway, a junior psychology major from Paragould, is the club’s secretary. She said the club provides information on opportunities for students and is a tight-knit group of individuals all interested in psychology.
“The Psychology Club has helped me become more informed with opportunities in my field,” Holloway said. “It has also helped me gain peers and make friendships with those also interested in psychology.”
She said the ultimate goal of the Psychology Club is to be impactful on campus and to help inform others about psychology, whether that be in the major or just as a general topic.
“The psychology club has helped me branch out of my shell and gain opportunities I never believed of having before coming to a state! I want the psychology club to be impactful and helpful for students in their educational career. I want it to be known for helping our campus as well as community,” Holloway said.
Laney Stout, a senior psychology major from Mountain Home, Arkansas, is vice president of the psychology club. She said she wants the club to provide a safe place for individuals interested in psychology and to be informative to those who want to know more about it and what they can do with psychology in the real world.
Stout said the members of the Psychology Club are creative, passionate about psychology and want to help those in need.
“The psychology club has allowed me to meet new people, earn new friends, and create greater opportunities for myself and my future. It has shown me the benefits of working closely with others and given me greater responsibilities to handle,” Stout said.
Stout said the psych club is about having fun but also educating people about psychology in general. The club wants to create connections in the community through discussions and other service work.
“Getting to meet new people every year and watching them grow is an accomplishment I cannot take credit for of course, but I still love to see it,” Stout said. “I love seeing the younger ones being so interested in the subject I have grown to love so much.”
