On Thursday, the gentlemen of Arkansas State University unveiled their bids and rushed home to their long-awaited Greek brotherhoods on the lawn of the Reng Student Union. 

Fraternity members gathered in the center of the Union grounds in explosive and energetic anticipation for the Bid Day event as sorority sisters lined along the patio’s edges in support.

Flags were waved high in the air by the brothers in stance for the many Greek university chapters being represented on campus as music played loudly from speakers in preparation of the highly anticipated embrace of their newly accepted pledge members.

Kyle Johnson, a sophomore business major from Jonesboro and patriot member of the Pi Kappa Alpha “Pike” fraternity chapter on campus, said philanthropy was his reason for joining Pike. 

“I think my number one value is to show love to everybody I know and meet, and we’re very welcoming, and that’s what drew me to it,” Johnson said. 

As the rush began, chants and cheers were heard echoing throughout campus as the afternoon event took full force.

Bryson Smallman, a newly inducted brother for Pi Kappa Alpha, said he was excited about joining a Greek organization this fall. 

“I’m willing to give everything I have, and I expect to make a lot of new friends and be involved in the community,” Smallman, a first year exercise science major from Jonesboro, said.”I’m really big on family and friends and the fraternity I joined, I feel like they put that into the things we do, and I just like that a lot.”

Jarrett Herison, a first-year health studies major from Wynne, AR, said he is enthusiastic about his pledge to his Kappa Alpha brethren and for this Greek group to form part of his identity far beyond his years at A-State.

“I’m just excited for it all,” Herison said. “To meet new people and make new friends, probably for the rest of my life.”
