Red Wolves fall to Panthers in lackluster fashion 2-0

Arkansas State played Georgia State on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Red Wolves’ last game before facing Georgia State was a loss to Texas State on Oct. 2, 2025, with a final score of 1-0. 

The Red Wolves have gotten off to a slow start so far in conference play starting off with a 1-4-2 record, the Red Wolves were looking for their second win. One issue since the start of conference play has been the lack of offense and shots from the attack.

Georgia State has gotten off to a fast start in conference play with a 4-2-1 record and was seeking their fifth win. Georgia State leads the all-time series 6-4-1.

The last time A-State and Georgia State met, on Oct. 8, 2023, the game ended in a tie. The Red Wolves came into the matchup with 23 goals to Georgia State’s 31.

The Red Wolves fell behind early, with the Panthers scoring in the fifth minute. Arkansas State struggled offensively early on. The Red Wolves were unable to respond to tie the game. Georgia State’s defense was clicking on all cylinders, stopping the Red Wolves from scoring for the rest of the half.

Georgia State had eight shots, while Arkansas State had three in the first half. A-State recorded more saves defensively in the first period.

The Panthers also had two corner kicks to the Red Wolves’ one in the first half. With 4:48 left in the period, Georgia State’s Brook Nelson scored a goal assisted by Therese Brink.

In the second half, the Panthers were much more aggressive on offense. They controlled the tempo, preventing the Red Wolves from scoring at any point. The Panthers had more corner kicks, two to one, in the second half.

The Panthers outshot the Red Wolves 6-3 in the second period. Defensively, Georgia State had one save to Arkansas State’s zero. In the 55th minute, Georgia State’s Emily Glenn scored, assisted by Sunniyah Tucker.

Georgia State finished the game with 14 shots to Arkansas State’s six. Both teams ended with three saves each, although Georgia State had one compared to ASU’s zero in the second half.

Georgia State created more scoring opportunities, finishing with four corner kicks to Arkansas State’s one in the second half.

Overall, Georgia State dominated the tempo and kept the ball on Arkansas State’s side of the field, allowing them to take more shots and score two goals to secure the win.

The Panthers will look for their sixth conference win at home against James Madison on Oct. 24.

For the Red Wolves, it was another loss where the defense showed up in moments, but the offense could not respond to Georgia State’s firepower.

Arkansas State will look to bounce back in its next game against Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 24, where the Red Wolves will try to earn their second conference win.
