“Dancing with the Stars” season 34 semi-finals set stage for explosive finale

The semi-finals of “Dancing with the Stars” (DWTS) season 34 was themed around Prince and one high performing couple was sent home.

With there only being six couples left on the show, Robert Irwin, Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Jordan Chiles, Whitney Leavitt and Elaine Hendrix, all of the couples had to dance to two Prince songs.

Elaine, who’s now the oldest on the show and has been injured for the past few weeks, went first and danced a Foxtrot to “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” Once in the skybox, the scores were released and the couple, Elaine and Alan, got 27/30, straight nines from the three judges.

Alix, who has a background in competitive dance, went next and danced the Argentine Tango to “Little Red Corvette.” While she got a perfect score last week, the judges weren’t nearly as impressed this week, getting a 28/30, Derek being the only judge to give her a 10.

The villainous mormon from “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” (SLOMW) Whitney, was third. This was the first episode of DWTS since season three of SLOMW came out where it was revealed she only came back to the show for the opportunity to dance on DWTS.

As I said during the Halloween episode: the wrong mormon went home.

Her truthfulness didn’t deter the judges as after her “1999” Cha Cha, Derek and Bruno gave her a 10 while Carrie Ann kept her from a perfect score, giving her a 9 for a total 29/30.

Dylan Efron was next and Zac must’ve heard the comments saying he hasn’t supported his brother because not only was Zac in the audience for the episode, he posted twice on his Instagram story to vote for Dylan. A Tango to “I Would Die 4 U” scored the lesser known Efron brother the same score as Elaine at 27/30.

Olympic gold gymnast, Jordan Childes was up with her Jive to “Raspberry Beret” was given a 27/30, the third score consisting of three straight nines.

Fan favorite Robert Irwin, whose sister won the mirrorball 10 years ago, closed out the first half of the show with his Jive to “Baby I’m a Star” and the first perfect score of the night.

Elaine must’ve felt the perfect score bug because in her second dance, a Pasa Doble to “When Doves Cry,” the “Parent Trap” star scored her first perfect score of the season. Alan, her dance partner, teared up and said “We worked so hard for this!”

The perfect scores kept going with Alix with a Viennese Waltz to “Purple Rain.”

A Cha Cha to “Kiss” ended the perfect score streak as Dylan scored a 28/30, Bruno being the only judge to give Dylan a 10.

Whitney didn’t fare much better, getting a 29 with a Viennese Waltz to “Slow Love.” Once again, Carrie Ann was the only one to give her a nine.

Jordan was the second to last of the night, dancing an Argentine Tango to “U Got the Look” and the Olympic gold medalist brought back the perfect scores.

Sadly, Robert couldn’t get two perfect scores in the same night. The son of Steve Irwin danced a Viennese Waltz to “WOW” and scored a 29/30 to end the night, Derek being the one to take away the perfect score.

It was finally elimination time and for the 10th time this season, there have only been 10 episodes this season, they had received the most votes throughout their 34 seasons of the show.

Dylan was on the chopping block for eliminations, with his not being a fan favorite and also not scoring the best during the night but was deemed safe early in eliminations. Elaine was safe first, leaving Alfonso saying “She’s 54, she’s injured and she’s made it to the finale!”

It was down to Jordan and Whitney and let’s just say her confession during SLOMW did not help her chances during the semi-final because, at last, Whitney Leavett, was eliminated from DWTS.

The season finale premieres next Tuesday at 7 p.m. and if you’re asking me, Robert wins the mirrorball, Elaine gets second and then everyone else fills in the bottom three.
