In a matchup between the top schools in Arkansas, the Arkansas State Red Wolves defeated the #6 University of Arkansas Razorbacks, 12-4, for the first time in program history.

The Razorbacks struck first, in the bottom of the first, with a home run on a 3-2 pitch to outfielder Maika Niu.

The Red Wolves came into the bottom of the second red hot. Designated hitter Aidan Houseworth smashed a home run straight down center field. Outfielder Cross Jumper made it to first base and proceeded to third after a hit from infielder Cason Campbell went through the Razorbacks’ second baseman.

Infielder Raul Torres brought Jumper home and then catcher Kaden Amundson made it a bases-loaded, one out ball-game after he was hit by a pitch.

On his second pitch, outfielder Ashton Quiller brought everyone home with a grand slam in left center, making it a 6-1 game in the bottom of the second, pulling out six points in a single inning.

The Red Wolves held the Razorbacks to only one run scored in the second after Torres got designated hitter Carson Willis out at third, allowing only outfielder Kuhio Aloy to score.

Jumper hit his first home run of the night in the third, as the third hitter in the lineup for the inning, after the first two up outfielder Evan Griffis and Houseworth popped up and flied out respectively.

Infielder Lane Walton followed up in the fourth inning with a home run of his own and Razorbacks’ Zack Stewart did the same in the bottom of the fourth.

Both teams took a scoring break until the seventh inning after Houseworth doubled to left, sending Griffis home after Stewart overran the baseball. Jumper brought Houseworth home after a rocket over the wall at left wall, marking his second home run of the night.

The Red Wolves scored their last run of the night, their 12th against the SEC school, off of a wild pitch with bases loaded as Torres ran home while the Razorback catcher scrambled for the ball.

Razorbacks’s Stewart brought in the last run of the night after he singled down the right field line, infielder TJ Pompey scored, taking the game to 12-4 in the bottom of the ninth.

All three Red Wolves pitchers, Andre Allen, Brett Foss and Cooper Garrison had 3 strikeouts a piece, Allen started the game and Garrison recorded the save.

Due to his grand slam, Quiller recorded three RBIs and Jumper, with his two home runs, recorded 3 RBIs.

The Red Wolves finish their Northwest Arkansas series against the Razorbacks today before heading back East to the Tom where they’ll face University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for their weekend series.
