The A-State Theatre Department will open the curtains one last time this season with their performance of “Leading Ladies.”
“Leading Ladies,” written by Ken Ludwig, is a comedy set in 1950s Pennsylvania. Leo, played by Zane Brewer, and Jack, played by Donovan Walters, are two down on their luck Shakespearean actors who plan to masquerade as the long-lost nephews of Florence Snider, played by Skyler Hilderbrand, in order to inherit her fortune.
Intrigued by the possibility of inheriting the fortune of the richest woman in York, Pennsylvania, the two pack their bags and travel to Snider’s small town, only to discover she is looking for her long lost nieces.
Focused on seeing their plan through, Leo and Jack disguise themselves as Maxine and Stephanie in order to claim the inheritance. This sparks a “whirlwind of mistaken identities, romantic complications, and farcical madness.”
Playing on the trope of conning an old woman out of all of her money, this play has been described as a mix between “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Some Like It How.” Focusing on physical comedy, witty banter and more, this production is sure to get audiences laughing out loud.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday April 17 and 24, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday April 18 and 25 and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday April 19 and 29 in the Drama Theatre at the Fowler Center.
