2026 has been the longest year of my life while also only lasting 20 seconds. I don’t really remember much, but I do remember some of the fashion wins and losses that occurred this year. Bear in mind, I am no fashion expert, as my usual attire is jeans and a T-shirt, but I’ll do my best to explain what I liked and didn’t like. 

Starting off at the top, literally, are slick backs. I’m all for a clean look but sometimes people take it a step too far. A slick back shouldn’t look like it’s ripping the hair out of your scalp. Let’s leave it as the gentle and modern look it was meant to be.

Another trend that has picked up in recent months is using different prints. Specifically, polka dots, stripes and animal prints. Polka dots and stripes are a trend that I have absolutely given in to. I can’t resist a good striped top; in fact, there’s one in my Amazon cart right now.

Animal print, however, is not a favorite of mine. People use it as a staple paired with neutrals, but even that is too much for me. Sorry, animal print lovers. 

Matching sets have become very popular this year as both loungewear and going-out attire. Maybe this is my inner consumerist, but I love a matching set. I have one from Aeire, and I’m wearing it right now, if that tells you anything. 

Moving down to pants, capris have been on the up and up again this summer. I have to say that this is a clothing item I never thought I would see again. I don’t necessarily hate them, though, but I do feel that they are best used for athletics, not dressier events. 

Shoes have also been an interesting topic this past year. The most noticeable being camel toe shoes, officially known as tabi shoes, and they are possibly the oddest thing one could put on their feet. I just don’t understand. 

Another shoe trend I can’t get behind is the sneakerinas, or sneaker ballet flats. I think they would look absolutely awful on me but I have seen some people pull it off. To each their own on this front. 

Accessories have certainly been unique this year as well. Silk scarves have exploded in popularity this summer. They’re used as necklaces with charms on them or tied around waists over jeans. This is a trend that I think is so chic. People’s ability to match the silk fabric to their outfits never ceases to amaze me. 

If you participated in any of these fashion trends that I didn’t like, I promise it’s not an attack. The great thing about fashion is that it’s subjective. Wear what you like and be proud of expressing yourself.
