
After both games ended in wins against University of Little Rock on Friday and Saturday the men’s basketball team has a four game winning streak putting the Red Wolves 7-5 in conference games and 10-9 overall.
A-State hosted the basketball teams first match on Friday against the Trojans at the First National Bank Arena. Last season both games against the Trojan’s ended in a loss for Red Wolves. Bouncing back from last season A-State led the first half of the game with a 18 point margin. A-State led almost the whole game only letting the Trojans get the lead once. A successful game for both the Red Wolves and A-State athletes.
Norchad Omier scored his 11th double-double for his career with 11 points and 11 boards. Norchad Omeir is ranked third in program history with the most rebounds scored by a freshman with 207. Two other players scored into double digits, Marquis Eaton scored 17 points and Caleb Field’s with 13 points. Other top scorer Malcom Farrignton scored 8 points in the game. On top scoring into double digits Eaton was named Sun Belt Conferences’ player of the week for the second consecutive week in a row.
“Great win tonight by our basketball team. I was very proud of the way they came out with intensity,” head coach Mike Balado said.
The second game A-State traveled to Little Rock to play their last match for the weekend against ULAR. The game ended in a 67-65 win. Marquis Eaton scored 23 points leading the Red Wolves once again. Christian Willis scored 12 points as the second top scorer for A-State. Avery Felts and Keyon Wesley scored 8 points for the Red Wolves.
The A-State basketball team was scheduled to travel to Texas to play against Texas State on Tuesday but, was canceled due to inclement weather. The Sun Belt Conference announced the game will not be rescheduled. A-State is still scheduled to host Texas State Friday and Saturday, Feb 19-20.
