Graduation time is coming fast for the students here at Arkansas State. This is a time to look back on the many accomplishments students have made during their college years.
On May 8, spring graduates will walk across the stage at Centennial Bank Stadium at 10 a.m. With the coronavirus still being here, there will still be certain precautions put into place when the ceremony begins.
Dr. Bill Smith, chief communications officer, explained the different safety regulations Arkansas State University has set to keep safety a top priority.
“We are maintaining some, so for example, we are anticipating that everyone will still wear masks to enter the facility and move around the facility,” Smith said. “We are not going to require graduates to request seating for their family.”
When asked what was recommended to stay safe, Dr. Smith said, “Use your good judgement. Six to ten feet all together as a family unit. They can sit there without their masks. Graduates will be spaced out on the field.”
There is no restriction on the number of guests that will be attending. Arkansas State University still recommends different families and groups of people social distance from others while the ceremony is happening. There will not be tickets this year to pass out for graduation because there is not a capacity number.
Students who will be graduating this spring can pick up their caps, gowns and graduate regalia through the Arkansas State University Bookstore the week of May 3-7.
The clear bag policy will be enforced for the graduation ceremony. The prohibition of outside food and drink will be waved. People can bring their own drinks or food, but no glass containers. If it is supposed to rain, rain ponchos will be allowed.
