Officer Robert Kary responded to the A-State Parking Garage level 2 to take a report of a hit and run. Upon arrival, Kary spoke to the victim who said she parked in the garage for a sorority meeting and was informed during the meeting by an associated person that a gray Toyota Highlander hit her car and kept going. The associated person followed the vehicle and got the license plate number. There was minor damage to the driver-side bumper of the car and the victim said she, upon further inspection, she noticed her sensor was pushed in on the vehicle causing it to send an error code on the car. Cameras were reviewed but there wasn’t an angle to view where her vehicle was parked.
Oct. 12 | 1:58 a.m.
Officer Christopher Sewell responded to University Hall for a student in the bathroom by the lobby who appeared to be intoxicated with possible alcohol poisoning. Sewell arrived on the scene and made contact with the resident assistant who said the suspect was on the bathroom floor and throwing up non-stop. The Jonesboro Fire Department arrived on the scene first and began to render aid. Shortly after, Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and took the suspect to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center. An associated person said the victim had been drinking at the Tau Kappa Epsilon house.
Oct. 11 | 11:58 p.m.
Officer Christopher Sewell responded to a fire at Collegiate Park Apartments. Upon arrival, Sewell made contact with the students who called. They said the vent hood in their apartment caught fire and damaged the vent hood. Sewell said no active fire was present when he arrived, but some property was damaged. The Jonesboro Fire Department cleared the room and Facilities Maintenance was called to bring fans and replace the vent hood.
Oct. 11 | 8:25 p.m.
Officer Jacob Foster initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Aggie Road and East University Loop on a white Subaru Forester driving at 30 mph in a 20 mph zone. Upon making contact with the arrestee, Foster said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle while the victim was locating his documents. The arrestee said it was his girlfriend’s vehicle and he didn’t know where the registration and insurance were but handed Foster his driver’s license. Foster ran his driver’s license and found that it was suspended and called for another unit so he could conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle. Upon the arrival of two officers from the Jonesboro Police Department, Foster had the arrestee exit the vehicle and stand behind the vehicle with the other officers while he searched the vehicle. He found multiple containers of what he believed to be marijuana. The arrestee admitted that it was marijuana. Foster also found a firearm and drug paraphernalia consisting of a “Baby Yoda” carrying case containing grinders, a scale, a rolling device, a tray and a pack of “Magic Mushroom” gummies. The arrestee was then placed under arrest for possession of Schedule VI and driving on a suspended license and transported to Craighead County Detention Center where he was booked in. Foster informed the arrestee he was banned from campus and gave him the property receipt for his firearm after confirming that the firearm was not stolen.
Oct. 9 | 10:21 p.m.
Officer Daniel Bradway reviewed camera footage of an incident of an individual tampering with A-State property. Bradway observed the suspect approach their vehicle from the south stairwell of building one, examine the paperwork attached to the vehicle and then proceed to the rear passenger side where a wheel immobilizer was installed. The suspect attempted to break it off by stomping, kicking and pulling on it. After retrieving an unknown item from the trunk of his car, he continued to pry it off the wheel. Eventually, he successfully removed the immobilizer, discarding parts of it in the grass and a storm drain behind his vehicle. The suspect and an associated person then left the area in separate vehicles. The associated person was driving a black Nissan Maxima while the suspect drove his red Dodge Charger from the scene. Bradway used the cameras to track the suspect back to the room of the associated person and obtained her information from other resources. Bradway identified the suspect and obtained more information about him, matching his driver’s license photo to the image from the video. Bradway said the associated person will receive a referral for the actions of her guest while on campus and the suspect will receive the criminal charge for 2nd degree criminal mischief.
Oct. 9 | 2:10 p.m.
Officer Caleb Lawson responded to Pack Place in response to a report of theft. Lawson made contact with the complainant who said he parked his vehicle around 10 p.m. on Oct. 5 and came back to it around 1 p.m. on Oct. 6. The complainant said he knew something was wrong when he started the vehicle and it was very loud. He said when he looked and saw that his catalytic converter had been stolen. Lawson reviewed the cameras and could not find a view of where the complainant had parked his vehicle.
Oct. 8 4:23 p.m.
Officer Caleb Lawson was stopped by an individual who said that earlier in the day she observed a vehicle hit a car in the parking lot and leave. She was not able to provide any information on the vehicle beyond that it was a black SUV. Lawson looked at the vehicle, determining it had damage to the driver’s side rear fender and left a business card for the owner of the vehicle to contact the police department. Later in the day the victim came to the police department and provided her information for a report. There are not any cameras that were facing the location where the victim’s car was located at the time of the incident.
