The Bradbury Art Museum (BAM) hosted the Lazy Looms on the Lawn Event to give students a relaxing break from midterms.

The event was held Friday, Oct. 11 outside of the Humanities and Social Sciences building.

Paden DeVita, the education coordinator for BAM, said the event focused on weaving, relaxing and engaging Arkansas State University students.

“It’s a good stress relief and you can do it in an open space and not be confined to staying in one spot which makes it a bit more fun,” DeVita said.

Devita said looming is for everyone and doesn’t require a certain level of skill. She said the main focus of the event was finding an activity accessible to everyone.

BAM provided supplies, like the looming kits and yarn, for students to use.

Madeline McMahan, the assistant director for BAM, said looms can be made out of a wide variety of materials.

“I was able to make a loom out of a can, but pretty much anything you can poke holes into can become a loom,” McMahan said.

This was the first time BAM hosted the loom event and their main goal was to bring in more people who want a couple minutes to an hour of stress-free activities from school assignments or work. They want students to be able to relax while also possibly picking up a new hobby.

Ann Wagner, BAM director, said she really enjoyed the event and even picked up on looming skills. She said she encourages more students to stop by during the next event.

“It’s useful and fun and I would absolutely recommend that when you see BAM is going to be doing events that you come because everyone is invited,” Wagner said.

BAM will host Lazy Looms on the Lawn every other Friday.
