The Intro to Service Learning class held Wolves for Wellness to teach students about the importance of mental health and physical activity.
The event was held on Oct. 16 and included several physical activities for students to participate in such as yoga, weight lifting and cornhole.
Aleecia Evans, a senior nursing major from Little Rock, said the event engaged attendees in a fun and informative way to understand the benefits of wellness on mental health.
“This event aims to educate our student body about the crucial connection between physical activity and mental health,” Evans said. “We have planned a variety of engaging activities, including free weights, cornhole, yoga and more, all designed to promote wellness in a fun and interactive way.”
Reginald Harden, a junior football player from Jacksonville, FL, said the event attacked social issues and how physical activity aids with mental health.
“We organized yoga, frisbee, cornhole, plyometrics and all sorts of things that we can incorporate in our day that can help with physical activity,” Harden said.
Bernard Bethel, a junior interdisciplinary studies major, said the primary focus of the event was to invite students to take a break from school to get outside and move their body.
“The focus is to find things to de-stress so things like games, going outside getting physical activity and listening to music is what this event is all about and for me it’s important because school and work can get stressful,” Bethel said
The students of the Intro to Service Learning class plan to host more events later on in the year to raise awareness for mental health.
