The Red Wolves women’s tennis crushed the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Senior Day. A-State won every single match against USM. The Golden Eagles won a combined 0 sets, and not a single match went to the third set.
The day started with doubles matches. Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi won their match against Sakura Sudo and Miranda Xu of USM. The pair beat the Golden Eagles’ duo 6-2. Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer defeated USM’s Malannia Vashkevich and Talia Wunnenberg with a score of 6-2. The third doubles match was left unfinished, but Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin led 4-3 over the Southern Miss players. The wins in Match 1 and Match 2 gave the Red Wolves a 2-0 lead.

In the singles matches, the Red Wolves also dominated. Grigoreva demolished USM’s Hannah Chambers in 2 sets, winning the first 6-1 and the second 6-2. Castellvi defeated Vashkevich in the first set 6-1, then shut out the Golden Eagles player in the second set 3-0. Cvanciger defeated Xu in Match 3. Loles Carbo Chova defeated Talia Wunnenberg in Match 5, taking the first set 6-3 and the second 6-1. The remaining matches were unfinished, as the game was called at that point. The Red Wolves led both of these games anyway.
In the Sun Belt standings, A-State ranks near the middle of the pack at eighth place. The victory moves their record to 12-9, and 5-5 in conference play. The Golden Eagles are faring much worse, with a record of 4-13, and a dismal 0-10 record in conference play.
The Red Wolves next match is with South Alabama on April 19 at Mobile, Alabama.
